We all use Microsoft Office 2010 suite in our day-to-day life. It’s the best productivity suite out there for Windows. Now, if you are the kind of person who doesn’t like to carry notebook, netbook or Windows tablet everywhere, you may want to install and carry office 2010 on a USB flash drive so that you can take your office programs with you everywhere you go.
Regular users of Microsoft Office will be delighted to know that they can actually install the stripped-down version of Office 2010, Office Starter 2010, edition on a USB with a few mouse clicks. The catch is that only Office Starter 2010 edition can be installed on a USB flash drive.
As you may know, Office Starter 2010 is a free version of Office 2010 suite and it comes with only Word and Excel with reduced functionalities. This free version of Office also displays ads on the bottom left of the Office window. Most of the new PCs usually come with Office Starter 2010 version. Interested users can follow the steps given below to install and carry Office Starter 2010 program on USB flash drive.
How to install Office 2010 on USB:
Step 1: If you have already installed Office Starter 2010 on your PC, simply skip this step. Users who don’t have Office Starter on their PCs need to download and install Office Starter edition. Read our download Office Starter 2010 article to know how to download and install Office Starter.
Step 2: Once installed, type Office Starter To-Go Device Manager 2010 in Start menusearch box and hit enter key to launch Office Starter To-Go Device Manager.
If you are getting, “To use Microsoft Office Starter To-Go Device Manager, you must first accept the Microsoft Software Licensing Terms in another Microsoft program” message, simply open Office Starter Word program and accept the license agreement.
Step 3: On the main screen, click Start button to begin downloading required program files. It might take a few minutes to download necessary program files from Microsoft server. You will see Microsoft Office is downloading the required feature message innotification area during this process.
Step 4: Once done, you will be asked to select the USB device on which you want to install Office Starter 2010 program. Select the USB drive and click Install button to start copying Office files to your USB device. Again, this may take several minutes. Note that Office Starter To-Go Device Manager doesn’t format the USB during installation. So, you needn’t to move the data from USB before using it for Office installation.
Step 5: You will see Installation Complete message once the installation is done. You now have a USB drive with Office Starter 2010 program.
Step 6: To use Office Starter 2010, simply connect the USB drive to a PC, open USB drive, double-click on Office.exe file, and then select Word or Excel program. Good luck!
NOTE: Office Starter 2010 edition is the only Office 2010 version that can be installed on a USB. Other Office 2010 editions can’t be installed on USB drives.
